Plessy Dissent

Plessy v. Ferguson was a MAJOR case in determining how African Americans would be treated in America, specifically the South, for many years to come. The Court decided that "separate but equal" would be the new normal, allowing for segregation. The dissenting opinion would come to be one of great opposition that lead to Brown v. The Board. The dissenting opinion was that there should be equal amenities for all and that separate was in fact not equal. This opinion won out in the end with the Brown v. Board decision.
